Belles of Praise

Today the singing group that I'm a part of, Belles of Praise, sang at Azalea Court in Headland. We are definitely an ametuer group, but we sing primarily Southern Gospel music and the residents there seemed to enjoy it. Christine York leads the group and she devotes a lot of time and energy in picking out the music, organizing, practicing, etc. She formed the group about three years ago and asked me to join and sing second soprano. I had never sang anything except alto, but I told her I would give it a try. I truly enjoy it. We usually practice every other Tuesday night. Even after a bad day at work, it really cheers you up to sing. We have a variety of ages and personality types, but we have a lot of fun with it. Sharon Temples and Barbara DeShazo sing soprano, Christine and I sing second soprano, Ruby McKnight and Ann Deal sing alto. And my sister, Anne, just recently joined the group and sings soprano and tenor. We sing at church on occasion and have started singing at Azalea Court about once a quarter. We'll start practicing our Christmas music soon and that's always fun!

Mondays

Well, today was Monday which usually means the end of a weekend. I did have Saturday and Sunday off work, but Danny worked all weekend. He left Saturday morning about lunch and didn't get home until tonight. Somehow, weekends are not really weekends when he's not around. We were just talking tonight and saying how much we enjoy each other's company. Even after all this time! Amazing, huh? Anyway, I had a good day at work today and Danny got good news today, too. The terminal manager called him aside tonight as he was getting ready to come home to tell him he had been chosen as Contractor of the Month. They have close to 200 drivers there, so that's a pretty big deal. To be eligibile, you have to have no log book errors, no DOT or safety violations or exceptions, accidents, etc. Then you are selected from that group. He gets his own special parking spot for his rig near the door, his name on a plaque and a lot of ribbing from the other drivers! It's always nice to be recognized for a job well done. You go, Danny!
When I got home tonight, Kim had already cooked supper and did some barbeque pork chops, rice and brocolli and cheese. Yummy! I'm gonna miss her having supper cooked when they're gone. Speaking of which, their banker is still saying he thinks their loan will close by the end of the week. They are getting really excited. They went yesterday afternoon to Home Depot to price some flooring, paint, etc. All in all, I would say it was a pretty good Monday....

Whaddya Know?

Well, this is my first posting on my new blog! I was surprised and pleased when my eldest daughter, Jenny, set me up with a blog of my very own. I hope to use it as a journal and de-stresser at the end of the day. Just to record the events of the day or write down my thoughts about those things most important to me. Even though I use a computer at work everyday, almost continuously, I have been reluctant to join the blogger/face book generation in communicating that much on the computer in my off time. But, the very day that Jenny set up a blog for me, my youngest daughter, Kim, set us up to download i-tunes. Danny and I got carried away downloading hits from The Commodores, Gladys Knight & the Pips, Tom Jones, Bread, Elvis, etc. How cool is that?
The main thing I do enjoy my computer at home for is the keeping up with the kids and grandkids in Rhode Island. Jenny, I look forward to reading your blog every day just to see what's up in your world. And seeing the pictures of the kids. It's almost as good as being there.. Because nothing is more important to me than my family. And I have been truly blessed with my family. I have little Aidan here to spoil, but I sure do miss the rest of 'em.
So I'll try to "do you proud" and keep posting on my blog. So, whaddya know? I'm a blogger!
Thanks, Jen!

Welcome to your blog...

Mom,
I know you have always wanted to be a writer.  Or to state it more correctly, you already are a writer.  I wanted to create a place for you to go and write, to be creative and to be yourself.  One of the many things that I inherited from you is your love for writing.  I know how great it feels to be able to express yourself in words on paper, even if no one else ever sees it.  Feel free to use this as your own personal space to write, to enjoy music or pictures, to journal your thoughts or be creative.  This is your own private blog, that you may choose to share with anyone or no one.  I know the computer isn't your favorite place to be, but blogging, for me, has become therapeutic and I hope it is for you too!   Enjoy!  I love you,  Jen
